Operation Reclaim

Operation Reclaim is an initiative being undertaken by Strathclyde Police after the success of an initial trial campaign.

The principle strategy of Operation Reclaim was to ‘Reclaim’ an area of public recreation from the gang fighters and return it to the general public.

A partnership was formed with Glasgow City Council Culture and Leisure Services Department with a view to providing a range of coached activities centred at Red Road Playing Fields. The aim of these activities would be to act as a catalyst for improved integration of youths in the area.

Following the launch of the project, two dedicated Police officers were in attendance on each evening of the initiative both in high visibility clothing for reassurance. The project ran from 7th June - 27th August, Monday to Friday, 6pm - 9pm. Coached sporting activities included rugby league, football, golf and cricket.
