Seasonal Pond Advice
March-May

- Clean and reinstall shut down filter systems and pumps, not forgetting to clean and check electrical; connectors and tubing.
- Replace UVC lamps and clean quartz sleaves, if required.
- Fish will probably feed on most days.
- Now is a good time to start planting your pool, watch for the frost sensitive plant varieties, these may initially require frost fleecing until the weather warms up, once established they will usually be ok.
- You can now clean out the pool before any frogspawn is laid, if you are too late lift it out and place in a bucket of pond water until after the pool is re-filled (use de-chlorinator first).
- Feed water lilies in April with a proprietary water plant food.
- Split up any overgrown plants now and use fresh soil and top off with gravel again.
- Keep an eye out for blanket weed and pull it out while it is still manageable.
- Don’t worry too much about green water as it is quite normal in the early months, this will clear all by itself if the pool is planted correctly.
- Trim and tidy up any dead foliage left from last year.
